Accessing the
gym

If you're a PPG tenant or a PT client, read on to see how you can access the PPG Fitness centre.

I heard there's an app?

Yup!

The app is free to download and you can use the links below to download it. Once you click on the right one for you the links will take you to a new page.

Android?

Apple?

How do I join?

1

Register an account

Create an account on the Protégé app using your work email address. We ask that you do this so that we know which organization to bill.

2

Save your passwords

Some organizations have aggressive spam filters meaning the reset password function may not work. It is mostly fine but it's a good idea to keep a record of your PIN and password, just in case.

3

Email me!

When you're done email gym@primeproperty.co.nz to get your account activated. Include the email you've used to create your account along with your first and last name.

4

Check your spam

You'll receive an email when your access has been granted. Check your spam folders or add Hello@fitnessattiffanys.co.nz to your approved list to be notified ASAP. Due to my limited desk time, access can take up to 5 working days although I try to get to them every Tues and Thurs.

5

Prep your app

When accessing the gym for the first time make sure you are logged in, the app is open and your Bluetooth is on. Open "Mobile Credential Settings" in the app and ensure the Bluetooth proximity setting is turned all the way up by sliding to the right. You should also have a box that says "mobile credentials." If you don't feel overly tech savvy book a quick tour and app run down with me here

Your first visit

The gym is based in the basement of 20 Ballance street, 6021 and is open to all tenants of PPG properties. Once you have access you don't need any special permisions to get in. It's all run via the app.

When you arrive there are 2 ways to enter. You can use the stairwell closest to Ballance street, or you can use the lifts. Just make sure your lift is going down or allow the doors to close fully before you select LG.

Once you're on the lower ground level look for the stairwell door farthest from the glass door of the gym with and this will take you to the changing rooms. There should also be a sign for the toilets on the correct door. We have toilets, showers and lockers down here but you do need to bring your own padlock. I also ask that you don't try to claim lockers permanently as we only have a limited number and aim to make the gym as accessible as possible for everyone. If you aren't a member of the gym but cycle or run to work, you're more than welcome to use the facilities too!

The glass door is the only access to the gym and you'll need your app open on your phone to gain access. Once your app is open, hold your phone up to the top card reader, your phone will vibrate and the reader will beep. After a few seconds the bottom reader will turn green which means the door is unlocked. The readers outisde the stairwell in the lobby work the same way. If you get stuck, there are some troubleshooting tips taped to the door.

Gym Etiquette

I aim to make the PPG fitness centre a welcoming and inclusive space. To maintain this environment, I ask you to take the time to read these rules for gym etiquette. I have a three strike policy before access is removed.

Tidy up after yourself

You are welcome to move equipment around the as needed, but please return it when you are done. This includes removing plates from machines and barbells, re racking your weights and putting benches back. Some members may require use of equipment but are unable to lift 20kg plates. On a personal note, the odd dumbbell may not seem much to you, but can quickly add up to 100's of kgs of equipment for me to per day. This can be such a bugbear for me that I do monitor use via the cameras and have a 3 strike rule before I remove access to the facility.

Wipe down equipment

Use the foaming cleaner located near the water fountain and the exit door to wipe down equipment when finished. Use a towel where possible and if you are concerned about COVID, you are more than welcome to wipe equipment before use too!

Avoid dropping weights

If you plan to do heavy lifting or barbell work, I ask that you practice controlled lowering only. We have tenants on the floor below us which can find the noise quite irritating. We also do not have the reinforced floors required to drop barbells from height, doing this can irreparably damage the floor and equipment. If I find that equipment has been broken due to a lack of care, I will request that the equipment is replaced at the users expense and access will be removed.

Be mindful of other members.

Please be aware of other gym users, ask permission if you're unsure if equipment is being used, be careful around those exercising. Be mindful of personal space and the 1 meter rule. Use headphones when listening to music and if filming, ensure no other members are in shot. If a member is in shot and asks you to delete the footage, please respect this. For many people the gym is a place that makes them feel very vulnerable, especially in the begining. I understand that filming form is very useful, but use of the gym takes precedent over filming.
